18th Century hand grenade?

What I love about treasure hunting so much, is that it always turns up surprises. Started cleaning what I thought was a cannon ball in crud. Now I think it could be a hand grenade. It is unlike any of the cannon balls we have recovered from the site. You can see the seem around it, and it has a metal bit sticking out of the top.with what looks to be a hole in it. Any thoughts?

  1. I have what I believe to be an 18th century Grenade. When I found it I thought it was a 3 inch cannon ball. It's smooth on the outside, segmented on the inside, and has a threaded hole for a fuse. About a third of it is missing where it exploded. I found it in a creek just outside of Washinton DC in the mid 60's.
